I am the Great Grandson of a member of the 47th:
Helon Mansfield Harwood
Born: 11 MAR 1847 WI
Died: 19 NOV 1925
Joined: 20 JAN 1865 at Madison, WI
Mustered out: 04 SEP 1865
Served in Company G, 47th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment
He is listed on the rolls of the regiment.
As far as I know he was a Private. The information that I have is thathe took ill and spent some time in a hospital. The unit apparently did some type of rail yard guard duty in TN.
I am descended from him via my mother whose father was Clyde Mansfield Harwood, my grandfather
and the son of Helon Mansfield Harwood.

And thanks for listing my G Grandfather.
I have a bit more information for you about Helon.
I show his as probably born in NY. and moved with his father to
He was married to Nancy Lavina Lewis on 08 OCT 1871 - probably
in WI as she was born there.
Helon also died in WI, probably Richland Center, Richland County
of heart and artery disease.
He was buried on 22 NOV 1925 in the Richland Center Cemetery,
Center, Richland County, WI.
As far as I know, he farmed on the outskirts of Richland Center
(which would have been very small back then) after the war. His son, and my
Clyde Mansfield Harwood, was a Cheese maker.
If you wish, you may post the marriage info, state of death and
place of burial if you wish.
