Hi Pete,

I am the Great Grandson of a member of the 47th:

Helon Mansfield Harwood

Born: 11 MAR 1847 WI

Died: 19 NOV 1925

Joined: 20 JAN 1865 at Madison, WI

Mustered out: 04 SEP 1865

Served in Company G, 47th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment

He is listed on the rolls of the regiment.

As far as I know he was a Private. The information that I have is that he took ill and spent some time in a hospitalThe unit apparently did some type of rail yard guard duty in TN.

I am descended from him via my mother whose father was Clyde Mansfield Harwood, my grandfather

and the son of Helon Mansfield Harwood.

I have a bit more information for you about Helon.

I show his as probably born in NY. and moved with his father to

He was married to Nancy Lavina Lewis on 08 OCT 1871 - probably
in WI
as she was born there.

Helon also died in WI, probably Richland Center, Richland County
of heart and artery disease.

He was buried on 22 NOV 1925 in the Richland Center Cemetery,
Center, Richland County, WI.

As far as I know, he farmed on the outskirts of Richland Center
(which would have been very small back then) after the war.  His son, and my

Clyde Mansfield Harwood, was a Cheese maker.
